1968 Fastback - Trunk
For added protection and to strengthen the rear of the car, a 14-gauge steel custom-made plate was designed for the trunk and the 22-gallon gas tank.
After a rust-protective primer was painted on both sides of the armor plate, the underneath was painted with several layers of a sound deadening coating and the top in chrome aluminum paint.
For added protection, the top of the gas tank was painted with an antique bronze Rustoleum.  Sound deadening material, layered with Reflectix, a heat insulation material, was laid in the rear of the car.  This area also will be beneath the armor plate.
After being undercoated and painted, the armor plate was installed in the trunk and screwed in place.  Separate pieces to enclose the gas tank filler neck and to level the battery box also were installed.
